Fr. Steward was born on Long Island but spent most of his life in New England. After graduating from Pittsfield High School in New Hampshire in 1963, he went to Northeastern University studying history and education. In 1976 he went on to study African affairs at Columbia University, and then he went to teach history at Sebei College in Uganda with the American Peace Corps. In addition to teaching history and English, he was also asked to teach Religious Knowledge, a regular subject in East Africa. It was then that he sensed a vocation to the ordained ministry. Returning to Boston, he married Patricia Martin Steward, and they were off to General Theological Seminary in New York City. Graduating with a Master in Divinity degree, he was then ordained to the diaconate and priesthood by the Rt Rev Robert S. Morse in 1980. And then he engaged in helping to start up faithful Anglican missions in Conway, Charlestown, Amherst, Concord, NH etc. Eventually he was made Canon Missioner for the Anglican Diocese of the Northeast, ACA, while also working as a social worker with the NH Dept. of Health and Human Services. Retiring in Ocala, Fl, he eventually moved to DeLand, Fl, in 2017. He currently attends Our Lady of the Angels, ACC, celebrating mass as well as assisting local Assisted Living facilities in the Volusia County area.
